A formációt 2000-ben Jason Köhnen és Gideon Kiers alapította; a projekt kezdetben klasszikus némafilmek - például a Metropolis és a Nosferatu - filmzenéinek élő, újraértelmezett megszólaltatására jött létre. Ebből nőtte ki magát az az együttes, amely később magát az atmoszféra fogalmát is újradefiniálta.
Az évek során a TKDE tagjai Hilary Jefferyvel (harsona, effektek), Charlotte Cegarrával (ének) és Eelco Bosmannel (gitár) bővültek. Kollektív improvizációjuk és erősen filmes esztétikájuk egyedi hangzásvilágot teremtett - olyat, amely az ambientet, a doomot, a jazzt, a post-rockot és az experimentális elektronikát egy túlvilági történetmeséléssé olvasztja össze.
Az együttes élő fellépései hipnotikus vizuális és zenei élményükről híresek, amelyeket gyakran absztrakt filmvetítések kísérnek, tükrözve a zenekar kísérteties hangulatát. Hatásuk mind a mai napig érezhető a modern dark jazz és experimentális elektronikus zenei színtéren, a TKDE-t pedig a műfaj egyik leginnovatívabb és legmaradandóbb kollektívájaként tartják számon.

MANSUR egy transzcendentális elektronikus zenei projekt, amelyet Horváth Martina magyar énekesnő (The Answer Lies In The Black Void, Thy Catafalque) és az experimentális zeneszerző, Jason Köhnen (The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Bong-Ra) hívott életre.
A zenei fantázia és a valóság határmezsgyéjén egyensúlyozva a MANSUR a magyar népzenei hagyományokat ötvözi a modern elektronikus hangdizájnnal, az arab oud arabeszkes tónusaival átszőve. Az organikus hangszerek és a rituális ritmusok magával ragadó, filmes hangképekké oldódnak, amelyek egyszerre hatnak ősi és futurisztikus módon.

Emerging from the shadows between sound and cinema, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) crafts music that feels like a forgotten dream—one suspended between the surreal and the sublime. Founded in 2000 by Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, the project began as a live reimagining of soundtracks for silent film classics such as Metropolis and Nosferatu. What followed was the birth of an ensemble that redefined atmosphere itself.
Over time, TKDE expanded to include Hilary Jeffery (trombone, effects), Charlotte Cegarra (vocals)and Eelco Bosman (guitar). Their collective improvisation and cinematic aesthetic created a distinct sonic identity — one that bridges ambient, doom, jazz, post-rock and experimental electronica into an otherworldly form of auditory storytelling.
The group’s live performances are renowned for their hypnotic visual and sonic experience, often accompanied by abstract film projections that mirror the ensemble’s spectral mood. Their influence continues to resonate through modern dark jazz and experimental electronic circles, marking TKDE as one of the genre’s most innovative and enduring collectives.
