About this Event

The Glasgow Open Salon for Arts and Sciences (GOSAS) is a Crucible Seed-funded interdisciplinary initiative inspired by the salon culture of the Scottish Enlightenment. In the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, artists, scientists, and philosophers gathered informally to exchange ideas across disciplinary boundaries, creating spaces that fostered intellectual innovation and social progress. In the same spirit, GOSAS creates a space for relaxed and open conversations between University of Glasgow staff and students from across disciplines.

Following the success of our first event, we would be delighted to invite you to our second event:

The joy of research in the modern era

When: 1 April 2026, 12:30 pm 2 pm (lunch provided)

Where: Room 103A, Clarice Pears Building

This event will provide a space for open discussion and reflection on how research has evolved over recent years and how this change has impacted our enjoyment of the craft. The conversation will flow around the following questions:

  • Why do we enjoy engaging in research?
  • How do changes in the academic and social environment shape our motivation for research?
  • How do remote and on-site work settings affect the way we conduct research and experience it?
  • How have AI tools changed our relationship to our work?

We look forward to welcoming you.

With best wishes,

The GOSAS Team
