“Jazz Futurist, Mad Scientist… There’s no one else doing anything close to what Mr. Robinson is doing.” – Wall Street Journal
“Vividly realized” – New York Times
“A beautiful tenor player… Like a careful shopper, choosing just the right notes.” – Tenor Legend Benny Golson

One of today's most wide-ranging instrumentalists, Scott Robinson has been heard on tenor with Chet Baker, trumpet with Lionel Hampton, alto clarinet with Paquito D'Rivera, and on bass sax with the NYC Opera. On these and other instruments including theremin and ophicleide, he has been heard with jazz's greats representing nearly every imaginable style of the music.
Primarily a tenor saxophonist, Scott’s discography exceeds 275 recordings, including collaborations with Frank Wess, Hank Jones, Joe Lovano, Ron Carter, Bob Brookmeyer, Toshiko Akiyoshi, even They Might Be Giants. He’s performed with Maria Schneider Orchestra for three decades, appearing on David Bowie’s final recording.
His releases as a leader have garnered five-star reviews from Leonard Feather, DownBeat Magazine, Wall Street Journal and respected sources worldwide. Scott’s recent album Tenormore, won Best Album of the Year in the JazzTimes readers poll, and rated “Indispensable” by France’s Jazz Hot magazine.
Scott has performed in some 60 nations, in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Village Vanguard, the Library of Congress, and the Vienna Opera House. His appearances for dignitaries include a U.S. Presidential Inauguration, and a command performance honoring the birthday of the king of Thailand. As a performer, leader, sideman, or Artist-in-Residence, he has been invited to more jazz festivals globally than we could possibly begin to name here.
Scott has participated in numerous Grammy-winning and nominated recordings, and received four fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has been profiled in the Encyclopedia of Jazz and Grove's Dictionary of Jazz, along with books by Nat Hentoff and others, and once was featured on CNN.
At his home in Teaneck, NJ, Scott has constructed a studio/laboratory for sonic research, containing an astonishing assortment of instruments and devices including the bass marimba that Sun Ra recorded with in the 1960s. Many adventurous recordings from this facility have appeared on his own ScienSonic Laboratories imprint. Scott's collaborators on these projects include Frank Kimbrough, Julian Thayer, Henry Grimes, Roscoe Mitchell, Milford Graves and Marshall Allen. ScienSonic's recordings have been certified by the Space Foundation as Certified Space Imagination Products.
Scott is an endorsing artist for Vandoren, and is signed to Denis Wick of London for brass. As a composer his works cover a wide range, from jazz tunes to large scale combined orchestras. He is currently at work on his one-man improvised symphonic recording, Reach for Tomorrow. After nearly four years of daily work, approximately 9½ minutes of fully-mixed music for 140 instruments has been realized. This project will take an estimated 12-15 years to complete.
A respected performer in all areas of jazz, Scott Robinson has arrived at his own unique musical voice which, as once described in a North Sea Jazz Festival program, "combines solid foundations with great daring".
We are thrilled for the opportunity to host the one and only, Scott Robinson.
