About this Event

This course develops the practitioner’s understanding of speech, language and communication skills in children who have experienced trauma and adversity. The course also covers how to support children with developing their communication skills, identifying different attachment skills and understanding how trauma impacts a child’s presentation.

Aims:

  • Understand why it is important to consider trauma in the context of SLCN.
  • Describe specific communication difficulties that are associated with trauma.
  • Explain some characteristics of attachment difficulties.
  • List Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE).
  • Name different ways to support children who experienced trauma.


Ideal for:

Any practitioners working with children who have experienced trauma and adversity including SLTs, nursery staff, childminders, teaching assistants, teachers and SENCOs.

This course is particularly helpful for staff who are developing their skills in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These practitioners may be new to this role or needing a refresher on the most recent evidence-based practice.


Please note: This course will be run as an online training session via Microsoft Teams. When you book, you will receive information about how to access the training and how the session will be run.

Please note that our training courses and workshops are designed to be interactive, to ensure participants get the most from the session. With this in mind, we ask that you check to ensure that both your camera and microphone are working prior to the course.

Each person attending the training needs to purchase an individual ticket. Several participants may join the training from the same device but each participant must have purchased an individual ticket. Additional participants who have not bought a ticket are not allowed to sit and watch the training, either in or out of the camera view. Additional participants in the room, who have not purchased a ticket, will be asked to leave.
