About this Event
“The Children who come to Harambee idolize Baba Ras D. Some, as young as two, can recite the definition of Harambee.” The Washington Post
“We can tell when a child has consistent exposure to Baba Ras D. before elementary school. His pedagogy has reduced conflicts, taught sharing, kindness, cultural awareness, and a sense of confidence and community. They stand out from their piers and they are also great listeners, with great concentration and attention spans.” A summary of testimonies from dozens of Pre Kand elementary school teachers in DMV area.
With several teen band events at BLOOMBARS now, an unusually large number of HARAMBEE alumni are coming back as musicians in middle school and high school bands!
Baba Ras D. is a foundational pillar of BLOOMBARS. 17 years, and more than 5,000 performances later, Baba Ras. D. is BACK for weekly performances to give parents, caregivers, and children the consistent and unique experience of HARAMBEE. The rave reviews come from all parts of the globe.
Now, more than ever, it is imperative that take the lessons and imprints that Harambee imparts to all participants, especially the little ones who have just come into a world during a global crisis. That means we instill connection, community, nonviolence, peace education, empathy, cultural competency, and early-child brain development, in a safe circle of love.
HARAMBEE @BLOOMBARS is a Washington, D.C. institution, international beacon, and a cultural/moral compass for thousands of parents and youth. In Swahili, HARAMBEE means “Unity’ and “We all pull together.”
