Hear from playwright Poata Alvie McKree speak about and read her recently premiered work that explores the lives of wāhine Māori working in a Crown Lynn factory and delves into discrimination and racism that played out in the labour environment of the 1970s.
The reading will be followed by a Q&A.

BIOGRAPHY
Poata Alvie McKree, of Ngāti Kahu, Ngāpuhi ki Whangaroa, St Vincent, and Barbados, is an interdisciplinary artist and arts therapist committed to telling stories that foster connection. Alvie writes for live performance, facilitates therapeutic art and movement workshops and offers ritual and ceremonial gatherings for women Currently, she uses performance, collage, and installation to reimagine her ancestors' lived experiences as a means to heal rifts in cultural identity caused by colonisation, migration, and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The Handlers was Alvies first play and it debuted at Te Pou Theatre earlier this year.
