About this Event
The Hag’s Taper + Mullein Torch Magic for Litha
A Midsummer Workshop
Long before electricity, mullein was the torch. Called hag’s taper, witch’s candle and Jupiter’s staff, this towering roadside plant has been dipped in fat and carried through the dark for centuries! At funerals, at festivals and wherever fire was needed to mark something sacred. At midsummer, when the sun reaches its peak and fire magic is at its most potent, there is no more fitting light to carry.
In this afternoon workshop, you’ll dip and dress your own mullein torch in beeswax, learning the folklore and magical history of the plant as you work. We’ll cover solar and fire correspondences for Litha, how to layer intention into the dipping process and what herbs, resins and oils can be added to the wax for specific workings. You’ll leave with a finished torch and the knowledge of how to use it.
What we’ll cover:
-Mullein’s folkloric history as a ritual torch across European traditions
-Solar and fire correspondences for Litha workings
-The dipping process
-Dressing your torch with herbs, resins and oils
-How to burn, read and work with your torch ritually
You’ll take home:
-One finished beeswax dipped mullein torch, dressed for midsummer
-Reference booklet on mullein lore and solar fire magic
All levels welcome. All materials provided. *Children under 13 need a parent.
