Attend "The Grand Tour," at the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum! Visitors will experience an immersive dance performance, and have a chance to dance themselves. The Grand Tour was the name of the popular trips of youngsters that visited the main capitals of Europe in the 18th Century. Attendees will experience a music and dance program that transports them to 18th Century England, France and Spain. Our guides are dancers Julia Bengtsson and Patrick Pride from The New York Baroque Dance Company, America's leading Baroque dance ensemble, and the musicians Paul Shipper, Jason Priset and Dongmyung Ahn.

Julia Bengtsson 

Swedish-born Julia Bengtsson has choreographed over 20 ballets, operas and films for venues including Carnegie Hall, UN Headquarters and Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center. Her stage direction of Opera Lafayette's production of Venus and Adonis was praised by The Washington Post as “a fine evening's entertainment”. She has made presentations at Temple University, NYU, and University of Pittsburgh. She joined The New York Baroque Dance Company in 2018 and in 2021 she was the first dancer chosen for Early Music America's Emerging Professional Leadership Council. She is a mentee of Bessie-awarded director/choreographer Catherine Turocy and a graduate of Royal Swedish Ballet School. http://www.juliabengtsson.com/

Paul Shipper

Paul Shipper is a Grammy nominated singer, instrumentalist, stage director and coach. In his confused career, he has performed in all 50 states and 17 countries with early music groups, theater, dance, contemporary chamber ensembles and opera companies. As well as his concert work on vocals, lute, guitar, recorder, flute, winds and percussion, he can be heard on over 60 recordings and on soundtracks for museums and library exhibits, PBS, HBO, Showtime’s hit series ‘The Tudors’ and various bad horror movies.

Dongmyung Ahn

Early string specialist Dongmyung Ahn is a performer, educator, and scholar whose interests span from the twelfth to eighteenth centuries. She regularly performs with Pegasus, Raritan Players, The Sebastians, and TENET Vocal Artists. She has played rebec in the critically acclaimed production of The Play of Daniel at the Cloisters. A dedicated educator, Dongmyung has taught music history at Columbia University, New York University, Queens College, Rutgers University, and Vassar College. She received her PhD in musicology at the Graduate Center, CUNY and has published articles on medieval liturgy and Jewish-Christian relations in Henry VIII’s court. 

Jason Priset

As a performer Dr. Jason Priset regularly travels around the United States and abroad, and has performed with a variety of different organizations and venues. This includes the Scottish Rite Temple in Miami, Florida, the Museu de la Música in Barcelona, Spain, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. And as a Director has organized and executed the Lute Society of America Festival, serves on faculty and staff for Amherst Early Music, and has been the musical director for various concerts including the Collegium Musicum at Montclair State University.

Patrick Pride

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Patrick Pride Jr. graduated with a BFA in Dance at Austin Peay State University in 2018. After graduating, Patrick performed in various musicals around Tennessee and was a member of Found Movement Group (a contemporary-based dance theater company). Since Patrick moved to NYC in 2020, he has performed in music videos, dance projects and choreographed Lion King Jr. Patrick joined The New York Baroque Dance Company in 2021. He also performs with the Brooklyn dance company, AP Dance Inc., winner of the Special Mention award for the 2021 Global Shorts Awards. 

The New York Baroque Dance Company 

The New York Baroque Dance Company, founded in 1976 by Catherine Turocy, Artistic Director, and Ann Jacoby, specializes in 17th and 18th century programs ranging from street performances to fully staged operas.  There are over 80 operas in its repertoire as well as reconstructed dances and ballets choreographed in period style. NYBDC has toured North America, Europe and Japan with conductors James Richman, John Eliot Gardiner, Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGegan and Wolfgang Katschner.  The company also performs with Opera Lafayette Orchestra and Chorus, The Dallas Bach Society, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Chorale and Ars Lyrica Houston. http://www.nybaroquedance.org/
