The Goldsmiths Teachers' Centre is part of the subject of Education and Lifelong Learning at Goldsmiths, University of London. We offer professional development and bespoke consultancy for schools and provide dynamic professional learning opportunities for adults working with children, supporting teachers’ careers and pupils’ progression. Our tutors come from diverse professional and educational backgrounds, bringing wide-ranging research profiles to the learning experience.

Who is this for?
Whether you are new to mentoring or a seasoned practitioner, this workshop is for you. It is designed for school-based mentors who support student teachers, regardless of which initial teacher training provider you work with. Join us for an afternoon of learning, reflection and practical strategies to enhance your mentoring practice.
Workshop Overview
Mentoring is at the heart of effective teacher development, and every student teacher brings their own strengths, experiences and needs. This professional development session will equip you with the knowledge, strategies and reflective tools to support student teachers more effectively, with a particular focus on:
- Supporting neurodiverse student teachers
- Supporting student teachers of colour
- Supporting student teachers' mental health and wellbeing
You will be introduced to key research and pedagogy in these areas. Through a combination of input, discussion and collaborative reflection, you will have the opportunity to examine your current practice and identify practical strategies to take back to your school.
What you will gain

- Developed your understanding of current research on inclusive mentoring practices
- Reflected on your own mentoring approaches in a supportive environment
- Identified specific, practical strategies to incorporate into your work with student teachers
