Event overview

Your Input Matters: The Future of MOPD Forum 2026 is a two-part, citywide disability community convening focused on surfacing the most urgent barriers facing New Yorkers with disabilities and generating practical recommendations for government action. With a new MOPD Commissioner and a new mayoral administration, this forum is designed to help define what MOPD should deliver—by elevating community priorities, identifying what’s working and what isn’t, and clarifying what must change.

Session 1 - April 14th - Online Only

Session 1: Community Priorities & Solutions Lab (Virtual) is a focused, online session built to gather broad community input. Participants will join topic-based breakout discussions—such as housing, education, employment, transportation, and more—to share lived experience, identify current barriers, and propose solutions. This session is about capturing the issues that matter most to disabled New Yorkers and collecting clear, actionable recommendations that will directly shape the agenda for Session 2.

Session 2 - April 28th - In Person and Online (Hybrid)

Session 2: From Input to Action—The Future of MOPD (Hybrid) is the in-person and online culminating forum where community input is organized into priorities and “big ideas” for change. The program will include brief remarks from elected officials, a short framing presentation on MOPD’s role and history, report-outs of key themes from Session 1, and a panel discussion with disability leaders and advocates. Session 2 will also include structured community engagement to refine and elevate recommendations, leading to a written community agenda that will be delivered to MOPD and the Mayor.
