“The Forlornness” is a new play written by graduating MFA in Arts Leadership student Audrey Herold. This production serves as her thesis.
“Where do you go all the time?” “Into the Forlornness” “Will I see you again?”
It’s Fritz the Shepherd’s last night on Earth. If Bavarian-born Princess Eugenie will light a candle for him down the road at the church, he’ll be free to finally cross over to the other side. But she’s grown accustomed to his visits. Will she let him go without a price?
Based on primary source diary accounts of a haunting in 1923, “The Forlornness” was workshopped by Dacha Theatre in 2020. Part spooky ghost-story and part poignant & sentimental, ‘The Forlornness' feels like ‘The Woman in Black' by Stephen Mallatratt meets “Mary’s Wedding” by Stephen Massicote. This historical-fiction thriller explores grief, hope and saying “goodbye” before you’re ready, in a tight 40 minutes with no intermission.
Following each show there will be a talkback with the artists led by Audrey as part of her thesis requirements. Admission is on a sliding scale and by donation. All proceeds go towards paying the artists involved and covering the production costs.
Show Dates:
June 2nd & 3rd at 7:30pm
June 3rd & 4th at 2:00 pm
