The Five Questions is a five-session Unitarian Universalist exploration of life’s deepest invitations—the questions that shape who we are, how we live, and what we strive to become. Grounded in UU values of open inquiry, mutual respect, and spiritual growth, this course offers a warm and engaging space for reflection, conversation, and connection.

Together we’ll explore:

1. What does it mean to be human?

Through story, science, and spiritual imagination, we’ll reflect on the gifts and responsibilities of being human and how we live out our UU commitment to the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

2. How do I know what I know?

Rooted in our tradition’s trust in reason, experience, and wonder, we’ll examine how we make meaning—how intuition, culture, memory, and community shape our understanding of truth.

3. Who or what is in charge?

From personal agency to shared governance to forces larger than ourselves, we’ll consider power, freedom, interdependence, and how our UU principles guide us in shaping a just and compassionate world.

4. What is the meaning of life?

Drawing from diverse sources of wisdom—religious, humanist, and personal—we’ll search for what calls each of us toward purpose, joy, and ethical living.

5. What is the meaning of death?

In the spirit of spiritual courage and compassionate presence, we’ll hold a gentle conversation about mortality, legacy, and what it means to live fully in the face of life’s impermanence.

This is not a course of predetermined answers but a shared journey of discovery. Through discussion, storytelling, creative exercises, and the support of a thoughtful UU community, you’ll deepen your connection to your own beliefs, to one another, and to the mystery that weaves us all together.

By the end, you won’t leave with certainty—but you will leave with clarity, companionship, and a renewed appreciation for the sacred questions at the heart of a meaningful life.
