About this Event

Coastal Continuing Education invites you to attend this interactive and educational 3-hour training with Rochelle Perper, PhD. This training is for all clinicians and treatment providers seeking to learn more about ethical and legal considerations for teletherapy practice and provides guidelines for how to determine if a client is an appropriate candidate for teletherapy services.


This course meets the BBS one-time telehealth coursework requirement for licensees.


Course Description:

Beyond the public health emergency, telehealth remains a pivotal component of healthcare and has improved access to mental health services for many patients. Therapists must be well-versed in the legal requirements and ethical practices of teletherapy to ensure the standard of care is met. This course reviews the relevant ethical and legal considerations for teletherapy practice and provides guidelines for how to determine if a client is an appropriate candidate for teletherapy services. This course provides practical and relevant information for the modern clinical setting. Throughout the course examples and common scenarios that therapist face in daily practice will be used to illustrate the issues related to the provision of ethical teletherapy services. Topics covered include the informed consent process, how to evaluate the appropriateness of teletherapy services, review of privacy practices, and how to respond to emergency situations.


This course meets the BBS one-time telehealth coursework requirement for licensees.


Learning Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help you:


  1. Describe a hybrid model of care
  2. Identify the required provisions in the teletherapy informed consent document that must be reviewed with the patient prior to the delivery of teletherapy services
  3. Explain how teletherapy services can lead to “fuzzy boundaries”
  4. Discuss when it is appropriate to recommend in-person services to a client

Pricing:

Licensed Psychologists, MFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs: $100.00

Unlicensed (Post-Docs/Associates) or individuals not needing CE credit: $90.00

Students (No CE Credit): $80.00

Coastal Continuing Education is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts continuing education credit granted by the California Psychological Association or by any of its Approved Providers. Coastal Continuing Education maintains responsibility for this program and its content.


Online check in will be at 7:45am. Please log in at 7:45am to make sure you are connected via video and audio and are able to view the course. You can then grab yourself a cup of coffee, glass of water, etc. and return a few minutes before 8:00am. You must be logged in and viewing from 8:00am-11:00am to be eligible to receive CEUs. A Zoom Webinar link will be emailed to you prior to the presentation.

Rochelle Perper, Ph.D. believes in the power and benefit of sharing knowledge and building meaningful connections. Dr. Perper is an established and well-respected member of the San Diego psychology community, having earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University (CSPP-AIU) in 2008. Dr. Perper is the Founder and Principal Psychologist of Therapy Changes, a multispecialty group psychology practice in San Diego, California. She is an active member of the San Diego Psychological Association (SDPA) and Chair of the SDPA Ethics Committee. Dr. Perper is committed to assisting the professional growth of mental health professionals by providing professional training courses on a variety of topics including law and ethics since 2011. She is an invited speaker to UCSD and USD Student Counseling Services and the San Diego County District Attorney Victim Advocacy program.


Dr. Perper specializes the area of complicated grief and is recognized for her compassion and skill helping clients heal from trauma. In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Perper provides consultation and exert testimony and review for forensic cases since 2018.
