After more then a decade of self-imposed exile, the Dukes of Mumbai are back together once more in the UK!
You can expect the same mix of high energy ‘60s surf pop instrumentals, classically influenced by the likes of Dick Dale and Link Wray, with a few surprise nuggets thrown in from further afield. The band are delighted to be on UK soil once more following their recent deportation from the US.
The Vegas scene was beginning to spiral out of control – three sell-out shows a day, six days a week started to take its toll on the boys. Dale was the first to crack. Disappearing for two days, he eventually showed up trying to book himself into San Quentin; then Johnnie didn’t sleep for a week after his eBay addiction flared up again.
Things took a turn for the worse after they ran out of clothes due to a clerical error over their laundry bill. Dick explains: “After the advertising work dried up due to that incident with the chimp we’d hit rock bottom. The fight backstage at the Grammys was the last straw. I apologised to her, but whatever.”
Despite all their troubles the Dukes are raring to go. “With all the terrible things happening in the world, some of which may have been caused by us, folks need some quality escapism to bring a smile to their faces,” says Anton, “and that’s where we come in.”
