THE DAWN CHORUS - 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW
For one night only, the beloved local indie-folk-rock legends return to the stage to perform songs from their acclaimed albums 'The Big Adventure' and 'The Carnival Leaves Town', celebrating 20 years since the band's formation.
The Dawn Chorus were formed in 2005 by school friends Neil Elliott and Matt Simpson, alongside brothers Kyle and Keith Evans, with the dual ambitions of writing infectiously melodic music and delaying impending adulthood for as long as possible. Years of playing every dive in Portsmouth and Southsea led to the band becoming regulars at the Wedge, where they eventually sold out a headline album promotion show for 'The Carnival Leaves Town'.
The band toured the UK relentlessly, playing alongside acts such as The Walkmen, Frank Turner and George Ezra, while expanding their number to incorporate every instrument under the sun (Paul Butler joining on keys & trumpet, Ben Coulson on mandolin, Wit on everything else.) This led to the band's cult reputation growing in Southsea and beyond. Single of the week accolades on XFM and BBC 6 music followed, with regular play from Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens on the latter. The band even secured a prestigious top 10 place in Planet Sound's 2008 albums of the year list (yes, on Teletext!)
