About this Event

The Dalston Salon - An Open Mic evening with Guest Speakers!

"Creativity is contagious - pass it on!" - Albert Einstein

MAY 13TH'S THEME: AUTHENTICITY
Be inspired by the Q and A and contributions of our Special Guest, Writer and Performer, Mark Farrelly! Currently touring his hugely successful one-person shows!
Connect with other Creatives during our 3-5 minute Open Mic spots on the theme of ‘Authenticity’ - do email us ahead of the 13th May at [email protected] if you know the genre of the piece you wish to perform! But last min decisions also catered for as best we can!
Be part of our growing community, participating in our post-performance discussion on the theme of ‘Authenticity’.
And please do support its longevity with our new ‘Pay What You Can’ policy. Minimum suggested donation is £5 plus Eventbrite fees (as before)!
We are a no-phone, welcoming and inclusive space at DNA Café, Dalston.
Come along to perform, network or just join in the chat! We'd love to meet you! 🐜 🐜 🐜

Our Manifesto:

We at The Dalston Salon wish to create an environment which celebrates emerging creativity. A white ant denotes an ant which is fully formed but whose exoskeleton has yet to acquire its distinctive colour. This is a recognition of how we are all finding and developing our creative voices.

We like ants for all sorts of reasons! Ants display many of the qualities we all need if we are to thrive in this challenging and competitive environment for the Arts.

  • They are diligent and hard working
  • They offer mutual support
  • They are interdependent
  • They are in constant communication
  • They adapt well to challenges
  • They know how to be flexible and to problem solve
  • They operate with foresight and preparation
  • They are self-motivated and self-organised
  • They do not need a top-down hierarchy or a single commander

Ants can also lift and carry items up to 50 times their own body weight due to their lightweight and armoured exoskeletons, their muscle mass and strong joints. We all know that Creatives need to be strong and resilient and that they more than pull their weight!!! Especially when they cooperate with each other!

At The Dalston Salon, we want you to

  • enjoy and be inspired by others’ creativity
  • give you a space in which to express your creativity
  • feel comfortable exploring ideas and concepts in a friendly and welcoming environment - whether that is through music, writing, dance, art, design or film. The choice of medium is yours!
  • share thoughts – quotations /extracts from others - that link to the monthly theme

At The Dalston Salon, we would like you to

  • make it a no-phone zone so we can all be in the moment
  • sign and leave a comment in our Visitors’ Book so we can keep improving the experience
  • sign up to our Mailing List so we can remain connected

NB: Huge thanks to Gokhan at DNA and to all our Special Guests for their time and expertise, and to you, our collaborators, without whom The Dalston Salon would not be possible!
