About this Event
The Color of Us is not a gallery opening you walk through quietly.
It’s an experience you feel.
This immersive evening brings together live poetry, visual art by BIPOC artists, and interactive storytelling to explore how colorism shapes identity, safety, health, and belonging—right here in Houston.
You’ll move through a thoughtfully curated space where:
- Powerful spoken-word performances give voice to lived experience
- Striking visual artwork by Black artists invites reflection, conversation, and connection
- Featured artworks are available for purchase, allowing you to support the artists and take a piece of the experience home
- Community-grounded data anchors the conversation in truth
- Interactive installations invite you to respond—writing, reflecting, and adding your voice to the collective story
- Thoughtfully curated vendors enhance the evening, including elevated non-alcoholic mocktails and sensory offerings designed to complement the experience
This is a room where art meets research, where personal stories meet community truth, and where silence is replaced with honest dialogue.
Whether you come as an artist, educator, creative, advocate, or someone who’s felt the weight of colorism and never had language for it—you belong here.
