About this Event

Are you concerned about the Climate Crisis? Are you ready to join the action, people concerned about the Climate Crisis all over the world reaching out to each other and cooperating to jointly stop the destruction of the world and to protect humanity? The creation of a World Citizens’ Climate Movement, with national chapters in each nation of the world working together to protect the planet?

One might consider the idea utter madness, the idea to get eight billion people in the world to agree on joint action to save the planet, to give up habits harming the planet, to share substantial amounts of resources, the thought than one could overcome the competing national interests for wealth and power, that one could convince people to stop their wars and make them cooperate instead. And ultimately, we even do not know whether it can work at all, whether we can change our lifestyle on earth quickly enough, so that it is carbon-free. Some experts might have an understanding on this issue, but the general population so far has no clue.

Yes, it all might appear madness. But what if creating such international citizens’ climate cooperation absolutely is our one and only chance to avert the destruction of the planet as we know it, the potential or probable destruction of our nations and human civilisation, the likely suffering and death of millions if not billions of people?

Are we then not simply obliged to create a joint World Citizens’ Climate Movement to try to stop the destruction of the world and to protect humanity, the generations of people to come? Presently the climate situation is getting increasingly desperate, the endeavours of our governments initiated so far evidently do not suffice to stop climate change at the agreed goal of 1.5° C, the actions of climate activists are highly valuable, but do not engage enough people, they are not far reaching enough, they need to be coordinated for them to be effective. Don’t we have to step up our efforts decidedly?

And even if we were not to succeed, we would at least have tried it, and in the process, we would have gained many friends all over the earth, we would have contributed to a new age of peaceful and constructive international citizen co-operation, which appears necessary by any means in our presently unhinged and chaotic world, and required in all kinds of respects to protect the planet and humanity.

The event will discuss the pros and cons of creating a World Citizens’ Climate Movement, its precise aims, the conditions for its success, and the steps it would have to take to get to co-ordinated global climate action, most of all the overall need to turn majorities against effective climate action into majorities, ideally into a consensus for effective climate action.

People who would be willing to help in any way in setting up the organisation, as trustees, in administrative functions, strategists, problem solvers, communication specialists, fundraisers, accountants, web designers, social media experts etc. are especially invited to join the debate.
