For one night only, we open the door to The Bunker.
On Tuesday 24th February, Word Of Mouth, the London-based jazz fusion project led by Asha ‘Keys’ Elfenbein, take over the basement at TAM for a special session that transports you back to 1966 — the golden age of British music.
Temple of Art and Music in Elephant and Castle will be transformed into the basement flat of Dana Gillespie, the after-hours sanctuary where musicians gathered after the Marquee and The Cromwellian. Guitars still ringing. Ideas still flowing. Songs half-written and played the same night. A room where improvisation ruled and anything could happen.
That spirit lives on in Word Of Mouth.
The concept behind the project is bold and uncompromising:
Fusion jazz with the songwriting values of pop — without sacrificing musical depth.
Across a career spanning decades, Asha has worked as a musician, producer and songwriter across an extraordinary range of styles — from 90s Stock-Aitken-Waterman pop to work connected to Michael Jackson and The Drifters, through RnB, hip hop, acoustic jazz, reggae and beyond.
The music draws on rare groove, house, disco, RnB, salsa, reggaeton, rock, funk and even classical influences — all unified under the expansive umbrella of jazz.
Live, this is about freedom.
The Word Of Mouth show is built on improvisation, giving some of the finest players in London the space to stretch, explore and take the audience somewhere unexpected. No two performances are ever the same.
The band brings together talent from Cuba and across Europe, cross-fertilising the London musical landscape and pushing musical frontiers — in an intimate venue fast becoming one of London’s most exciting live music destinations.
