The Awkward Silences

Led by author, musician and disability campaigner Paul Hawkins, the Awkward Silences combine off-kilter Daniel Johnston-eqsque pop with the music hall wit of Ian Dury and the showmanship of the Bad Seeds or the Flaming Lips. The band cut their teeth at the infamous Blang Nights and Antifolk Festivals at the 12 Bar Club in the early 2000s and have performed at Latitude, Kendal Calling and the South Bank Centre as well as recording a Radio 1 session at the BBC’s famous Maida Vale Studios.
Red Peril
https://www.instagram.com/redperilmusic/
Arising from the ashes of Madonnatron, Red Peril is the new endeavour of London-based Italian-Mexican musician Stefania F. Cardenas. In her previous incarnation, as singer and guitarist of post-punk ensemble Madonnatron, Cardenas crafted the raw and dark atmospheres that characterised the band’s sound. In this new project, she is conjuring behind drum machines and synthesizers, casting mystical spells reminiscent of Italo Disco, with Dexter Krenal (Pregoblin) thickening the sonic waves with guitar, effects and vocals. Their narrations evoke the sultry imagery of post-war pulp magazines.
Lucy's Diary
https://blangrecords.bandcamp.com/album/lucys-diary
"Lucy’s Diary stand out by playing angsty, cheeky pop-punk with big guitars and lyrics as raw and real as they come. Each track an infectious, emotive slice of life. Each tale universal despite their sometimes troubling inspirations, all glued together perfectly by Joplin’s gutsy, dusky vocals with the syrupy gravel of Kim Deal and the balls and venom of Courtney Love combined."
My Best Unbeaten Brother
https://mybestunbeatenbrother.bandcamp.com/album/pessimistic-pizza
Croydon three piece featuring ex-members of Nosferatu D2, Superman Revenge Squad and the Jonbarr Hinge. Frontman Ben Parker describes 2024 album "Pessimistic Pizza" as "Inspired by getting older, getting sadder, getting angrier with a post-Brexit world where The Smiths have been ruined by the actions of the ex-singer. Learning to let go; learning to be Spider-Man; trying to understand The Fall; trying to understand life and death, and trying to understand records by The Steve Miller Band.”
Sergeant Buzfuz
http://www.sergeantbuzfuz.com
Sergeant Buzfuz are a mix of earworm melodies, punk energy and witty passionate stories of ordinary working folk. "That is what, I do believe, you call a pop tune" MARC RILEY, BBC 6 MUSIC
The Phone Call
https://thephonecall.bandcamp.com/music
Smart, catchy electronica featuring surrealist lyrics and razor-sharp grooves.
Nat the Hammer
https://natthehammer.bandcamp.com/
Nat the Hammer is the solo project of Nathan Loughran, lead singer of The Reverse. Stripped down to nothing more than a guitar and a voice, Nat the Hammer’s songs have been likened to Leonard Cohen or the lo-fi anti-folk of Jeffrey Lewis.
He has released two albums and four EPs with The Reverse, most recently “Which Way Out” and “If The World Ends Now” on Blang Records.
Plus
A solo set by Paul Hawkins
and one more act to be confirmed.
