Before you speak to the media, you need a plan, a set of bulletproof messages and a a roadmap for avoiding mistakes.
You need to understand what to expect at every point along the way. How to navigate a media interview (whether it's print, radio or TV) with confidence and ensure your organization's best interests are served.
This session includes an engaging theory component, numerous case studies ripped from the headlines and a practical, hands-on workshop component in which you will get to prepare for and deliver a very realistic simulated media interview.
Topics we will cover include how to:
- Prepare more effectively before a media interview,
- Understand the drivers of news and how to use them to your advantage,
- Develop and deliver strong messages that will resonate with reporters,
- Understand and defend your rights during a media interview,
- Come across as a credible, knowledgeable and helpful spokesperson,
- Handle controversial questions and difficult reporters,
- Demonstrate effective body language, eye contact, tone of voice, etc.
- Handle negative questions and challenging reporters,
- Avoid common pitfalls (e.g. ‘off the record’, speculating, etc.),
- Succeed in print, radio and TV interviews,
- Stay on message when the journalist tries to steer you in another direction and more.
