Sharing yoga with beginners—helping people explore these practices and fall in love with the many ways yoga supports their well-being—is one of the most meaningful teaching experiences ever. Yet, it can also be one of the most challenging, requiring thoughtful planning, clear and distilled communication, an open mind, and a wide open heart. This weekend training invites you to join a community of teachers as we step into “beginner’s mind” together to discover ways to make yoga accessible, engaging, and supportive for newcomers.Learning to teach beginners is a powerful opportunity to sharpen your skills as an instructor. Developing the clarity, directness, and accessibility required to teach new practitioners not only benefits your beginner students but also makes you more effective across any teaching niche. As you refine your cues, choice of language, and delivery, you’ll bring more strengths to your teaching overall, capable of communicating with greater impact and resonance to any group.
In this course, we’ll explore:
• How to construct a beginner’s class, including a basic recipe you can experiment with and build on
• Ways to foster a learning experience that feels welcoming,
supportive, accessible, and fun
• Skillful use of language, cues, and demonstrations
• Techniques for adapting your mixed-level class sequences into beginner classes
• Possibilities for creating a beginner’s series
Throughout this course, you’ll have lots of time for collaboration,
testing ideas, practicing techniques, and building community with
other teachers passionate about sharing yoga with beginners in an
effective, relatable, and heartfelt way.
