The ARSONISTS (Brandstifter) Downstage LEFT play Max Frisch

The Arsonists is about Biedermann, a succesful business owner, and upstanding citizen. But that all chenges when SHE lets two suspicious strangers take up residency in her attic. Could they be the Arsonists who have been burning nearby towns to the ground? If so, what could they want from her house, conveniently situated in the middle of town? And, more importantly, what will she do about it?

Downstage Left returns to the Badhuistheater with Max Frisch's chillingly hilarious satire The Arsonists from 1958. Max Frisch, the Swiss writer and architect, had a strong European conscience. Written post 1940s war, and early " Cold " war; Max Frisch was deeply disturbed by the Hungarian uprising in 1956 , and returned to his perennial satire of personal ethics and the weakness of respectability in the face of obvious evil. What that Evil is, Frisch never says.
