🗺 Route: Pula, Croatia - Vis, Croatia - Corfu, Greece - Sounio, Greece🗓 Duration: 9 days
The Course
Embark on a legendary voyage through history. This 750-nautical-mile expedition is a hands-on masterclass in long-distance passage making. Retracing the ancient connection between Pula (founded by the Colchians) and Greece, you will descend the full length of the Adriatic and cross the Ionian Sea to arrive at the Temple of Poseidon.
The Itinerary Highlights:
📌 The Issa Departure (Pula to Vis): A 140 NM non-stop warm-up to the island of Vis (ancient Issa), the most important Greek colony in the Adriatic. We visit the Archaeological Museum to see the head of Artemis before sailing south.
📌 The Otranto Crossing (Vis to Corfu): The "Big Jump." A 300 NM offshore leg crossing the Strait of Otranto. Following the favorable southerly currents, you will navigate the traffic separation schemes and changing sea states where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea.
📌 The Engineering Marvel (Corfu to Corinth): Pilotage through the Gulf of Patras and passing under the Rion-Antirion bridge.
📌 The Corinth Canal: The highlight of the trip. We navigate the 6.4km long, narrow canal—a dream of Emperor Nero, finally realized in the 19th century. You will learn the strict convoy procedures and current management required for this passage.
📌 Arrival at the Temple: We finish at Olympic Marine in Sounio, beneath the Temple of Poseidon.
Sailors who want the mileage of an offshore passage (over 700 NM) but combined with the joy of exploration, dining ashore in historic towns, and exploring the Croatian and Greek coasts. ☸🍝
