ANY LAST WORDS?Join dark historian Andrew Johnston of Alternative Ulstours for an illustrated Terror Talk on capital punishment in Belfast, on the 65th anniversary of the last execution on Irish soil - the infamous case of Robert McGladdery, hanged on 20th December 1961.
The talk will document all 17 death sentences carried out at Her Majesty's Prison Belfast - aka Crumlin Road Gaol - between 1854 and 1961. Learn about the condemned men and their crimes, the tragic victims and the darkly characterful executioners who pulled the lever.
Andrew's research has uncovered details and images related to Belfast's hangings at the 'Crum' not heard or seen for decades. The stories are often harrowing, always horrific and in several instances, downright bizarre.
The evening will also examine attitudes towards the death penalty in the British Isles and wonder whether executions could yet make a grim return.
So, come along to the iconic Sunflower Public House, buy a drink, pull up a seat and stare into the abyss with Alternative Ulstours!
