This preconference session is designed to provide training and information for anyone (at home, schools, or organizations) who wants to successfully tutor a child (age 4-8) in essential reading skills using the best-selling book, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons (TYC). TYC has incorporated the Science of Reading with the Science of Teaching since 1983. When implemented faithfully, the program advances a child from a beginning reader to one who is reading at a second-grade level. TYC has been endorsed by the Right to Read founder, Robert Sweet; New York Times writer, John McWhorter; and was the ONLY instructional program recommended for further reading by Emily Hanford (Sold a Story podcast). See: https://startreading.com/research-reviews/.Session Presenter: Dr. Susan Syverud is a longtime child advocate, TYC trainer, and currently a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She will provide fun, comprehensive training in the techniques and strategies required to implement TYC successfully. Participants will have the opportunity to earn 6 hours of Professional Development credit with a certificate of completion. Susan works directly with Dr. Phyllis Haddox, who fully revised and updated Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons.
