Kristen Gilbert, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University, her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Yale University, her clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine.



About This Event

Dr. Gilbert will define the “overcontrolled” presentation and how it presents across various psychiatric presentations in children and adolescents. She will then introduce Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO DBT), including principles, theory, and current research on this novel transdiagnostic treatment. Dr. Gilbert will then focus on ongoing efforts to adapt RO DBT for adolescents, including treatment allocation, practical considerations, and new skills.



Learning Objectives
  • Recognize the “overcontrolled” phenotype in children and adolescents.
  • Identify when to use RO DBT in adolescent psychiatric populations.
  • Apply RO DBT principles and structure for use with adolescents.
  • Integrate examples of RO DBT adolescent skills and theory in the context of RO DBT treatment.
