This full day practical workshop will introduce you to the world of Māori arts by going on a journey to make your very own kōauau or Māori flute. You will discover the tikanga and traditional stories that offer lessons from the past.
A rare opportunity to come into the realm of Tātou Studios, a fully equipped Māori arts workshop, studio and gallery that was opened in late 2025.
The afternoon finishes with lessons on how to play your kōauau.
Kahu Paki Paki (Te Ātiawa) is a practitioner of more than three decades and specialises in worn taonga, sculpture and weaponry. Kahu operates a toi Māori workshop and gallery in Te Tauihu, based in Whakatū called Tātou Studios.
Alongside this Kahu provides qualified project management and design consultancy mostly for the construction industry and public sector under Tātou Projects, as well as facilitating community wānanga.
