Award-winning and bestselling Anishinaabe author Tanya Talaga launches her new book, The Knowing, in a special Koerner Hall event co-presented with RamsayTalks. The evening also includes a special appearance by two-time Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Aysanabee.

Deeply personal and meticulously researched, The Knowing is a seminal unravelling of the centuries-long oppression of Indigenous People that continues to reverberate in these communities today. Talaga retells the history of Canada as only she can - through an Indigenous lens, beginning with the life of her great-great grandmother Annie Carpenter and her family as they experienced decades of government - and Church - sanctioned enfranchisement and genocide.
Ms. Talaga will discuss her book, The Knowing in an interview with Mark Sakamoto, and answer questions from the audience.
Through her best-selling books, acclaimed documentaries and podcasts, her Globe and Mail columns and powerful lectures (including The 2018 CBC Massey Lecture), Talaga amplifies Indigenous voices and stories across Canada and the world. She offers audiences her deep knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, humanizing the legacy of colonization and offering hope for a more equitable future.
Entrepreneur, investor, and best-selling author Mark Sakamoto’s first book, Forgiveness: A Gift from My Grandparents, debuted as a #1 national bestseller and went on to win CBC Canada Reads in 2018. A frequent television presence, Mark was the host and executive producer of Good People, a documentary series that explored humanity’s biggest problems and was co-produced by Vice Media and the CBC.
Aysanabee is a multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer songwriter currently based in Toronto. He is Oji-Cree, Sucker Clan of the Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in community in the far reaches of Northwestern Ontario. He made history in 2024 as the first ever Indigenous Artist to win the Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year and the coveted Songwriter of the Year, for his EP, Here and Now.
