Welcome back to another fabulous 1st Friday Alternative/Nuevo Tango at OmCulture! This monthly dance is designed for those who love dancing tango to non-traditional tango music which can include everything from sumptuous Nuevo to non-tango alternative. This format lends itself well to more open embrace, bigger movements and even non-tango styling. It's a fun, friendly environment in which everyone is welcome and all are encouraged to be proactive about getting on the floor. There is no Tanda requirement to dance 3 or 4 songs in a row. In this dance it is perfectly acceptable to dance several dances in a row or just one - your choice!
This month we are delighted to host Danni as our resident DJ. In her own words: Danni steps into the booth for her alternative tango DJ debut at OmCulture, bringing over a decade of Argentine tango experience and a deep love for music and dance as culture, identity, and self-expression.
Her alternative tandas are playful, soulful, and occasionally unexpected, drawing from diverse musical worlds to spark curiosity and invite dancers to listen differently and connect beyond the familiar framework.
Danni is based in Seattle, WA were she is teaching Tango with her husband Vivek. Follow them at: facebook.com/southseattletango
As always, Michelle Badion will lead us in a 30 minute ice-breaker class that will get us all dancing and teach us one 'cool move' to practice in a Rueda (wheel or circle) format so everyone gets to dance with everyone.
