Join Paula Duarte in Leeds for a special afternoon, where you will be rediscovering tango, deepening technical understanding, and improving the relationship with your own body.
This signature workshop is designed for dancers who want to connect more deeply with themselves and others, enhance their technical understanding, increase self-awareness, build self-confidence, and attune to their own power.
What’s happening on the day?
We’ll start by coming together in a shared circle, creating a space to safely open the day and connect with ourselves and with each other before stepping onto the dance floor. From there, the day will unfold through a beautiful mix of technical and somatic work designed to bring balance, presence and technical clarity.
Programme Saturday 31.01.2026:
1. Opening Circle & Sharing with a Partner
Exercises to gently opening the day to ground, connect, break the ice and and tune into your own body.
2. Somatic Exercises
Simple but powerful body-awareness practices to release tension and open up natural movement, preparing the body and mind for the chore of the workshop.
3. Walking Technique
A complete technical breakdown of the walk, one of the most important elements of the Argentine Tango for elegance, precision, comfort, stability and connection with partners.
4.Ochos, Spirals & circularity
Understand the principles of dissociation, how to increase range of rotation, while maintaining stability.
Learn how to apply these concepts practically and contextually.
5.Giros & Turns
Deconstructing one of the most technically rich figures of the Argentine Tango. Understand how to turn around your partner effortlessly.

6. Standing leg versus free leg
Understanding the roles of the standing leg and free leg, for solid stability, styling and decorations.
7. Melodic Decorations
Exploring melodical decorations, increasing control of the body, applying different variations in the proper music context and learning how to best communicate your needs with the leader when requesting time is needed
8. Rhythmic Decorations
Connect with your playful side by exploring rhythmic decorations and variations, adding personality to your dance and obtaining confident styling options for the dance floor.
9.Somatic Closing & Relaxation
Coming back to the body, integrating everything we’ve learned with breath, stillness, and presence.
10. Closing the circle
We’ll end the day together in a circle of sharing and gratitude, celebrating what we’ve discovered on the dance floor.

Paula is widely celebrated for her technique, elegance, and beauty in dance, as well as her distinctive tango forensic style. Argentine Tango Performer & Choreographer:
Paula is a world-class professional dancer, teacher, and choreographer of the Argentine tango with 30+ years of general dance experience. Paula's passion for the Argentine tango developed into a full-time career over the last fifteen years. She has been regularly invited to take part in national and international Tango events, and she is currently one of the most sought-after tango dancers and teachers in the UK. Having taught at most Tango London Clubs over the last twelve years, Paula is currently based in London, where she runs her private and teaches group lessons at different Tango Clubs. She takes part in different national and international events and shows. in 2023 Paula completed touring with Vincent Simone’s Tango Passions touring production, with whom she performed the role of leading lady since its start in 2021. 2003: Paula completed her University degree in Dance and Theatre Performance at Fontys Dansacademie (NL).
2003-2013 Paula embarked on a career in contemporary dance, simultaneously cultivating an interest in Argentine Tango. Her contemporary dance career flourished in Holland and the UK over the next decade.
2005 to 2009: assisting her first Tango teacher, Jorge Fatauros, in Amsterdam marked Paula's entry into the world of Tango. Subsequently, she embraced performing in this style and initiated running her own classes.
2010-2012: Paula choreographed and performed a Tango with Martin Acosta for the MTV featured music video "La Musica." During this period she was also understudy for Rea Danza's production "Broken Tango" and later joined the company Compania Nacional Arcos de Buenos Aires as well as Conexion Tango Company.
2013-2015: Paula became the Resident Tango Teacher at Negracha Tango Club (London, UK), teaching and performing with the founder and director Ivan Arandia. Simultaneously, she was invited to become a guest teacher at various London Tango Schools.
2015-2020: Paula showcased at London's Cabaret des Distractions (Cafe de Paris), collaborated in various video clips, and performed in UK touring Argentine Tango shows such as "Tango Encounters" (Tango Siempre) and "Language of the Heart" (Santiago Quartet).
2018-2021: Paula toured internationally with Michael Nadtochi, contributing both performances and teachings across the UK, Europe, Asia, and the USA. They were known for "Paulita y el Gato".
2019-2020: Paula was the leading lady in the Tango production Revelacion Tango (Italy) directed by Adriando Maurielo, with whom she danced the principle role. This production toured in Italy in the winter of 2019.
2018-Current: Paula is a resident teacher at Tanguito Tango Academy since 2018, where she regularly teaches and performs with the founder and director Bruno Vandanabeele.
2021 to 2024: Paula was the leading lady of Tango Passions, a production by Vincent Simone (with whom she danced with) and Strictly Theatre (UK). During this period Paula also produced her own video clips, available to watch on youtube, music from El Cachivache as well as Hector Valera.
2025 and Ongoing: Paula continues to refine her teaching and performance methods, conducting group and private classes both nationally and internationally, striving for professional independence. Her dedication to Argentine Tango remains unwavering, making her a prominent figure in the global Tango community.
