tAngerinecAt
tAngerinecAt is a Welsh-Ukrainian duo known for their powerful sonic rituals and anti-fascist message deeply rooted in personal experience of resistance. Their shows unfold like immersive incantations—slowly drawing the room into a shared, altered space. Blending ceremonial industrial textures, shamanic electronica, spoken word, overtone vocals, and trance-driven rhythms, they create a soundscape that is at once hypnotic, mesmerising, and deeply cathartic.
Expect moments of quiet intensity, surges of raw emotion, and a sense that something ancient and urgent is being summoned. This is music to be felt in the body, not just heard—an intimate, transformative experience that lingers long after the final note.
Founded by Ukrainian-born producer, sound artist, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zhenia Purpurovsky and British-born sound artist Paul Chilton, they’ve released seven albums, built a global following, performed at festivals across Europe, and toured in 15 countries.
'I’ve never heard anything quite like this... Chilling and Unsettlingly Beautiful... It’s Stunning' - Adam Walton, BBC Introducing Wales

Some feedback from their tour in 2025:
“As the music subsides, I become acutely aware of my racing heartbeat. The duo specialises in the kind of intensity that really sneaks up on you…The music is unquestionably dark and brooding, yet there’s a real sense of catharsis here too… In the age of AI, it’s reassuring to be stood here listening to something so raw and real… It’s been an absolute pleasure to hear Grief delivered in its entirety. In fact, it’s so good, I genuinely want to go back to the start of the gig and do it all again. It’s all about the atmosphere, the tension and the spaces between the sound. Indeed, there are moments of silence within the set when you can practically hear a pin drop. The lack of chatter between songs ensures the spell remains unbroken. Grief – the title track from their latest LP – begins with an a cappella vocal sung entirely in Ukrainian. The latter part of the song sounds like some cosmic funeral procession and – to my ears – invokes the beautiful Going Up by post-industrial legends Coil (I must really have them on my mind tonight).”
- Andy Brown, LOUDER THAN WAR
“Just to say Tangerinecat were mesmerising last night, must admit I just drifted of in the sound, time flew by ,if you get the opportunity to see them this tour go and see you won't regret it in my humble opinion” - Graham Seaman, Sound It Out Records
"One of the best music experiences"
“What a performance! A must see any time you have an opportunity”
“A fantastic concert last night in Coventry- more like a ritual incantation, trance-like,a drumbeat of doom? and delight ! swathed in a mesmerising soundscape. So glad I came…”
“You two were amazing … and your voice was otherworldly! Absolutely loved it …”
“Thank you for coming to Scotland. You were absolutely amazing!!”
“Absolutely mesmerising from start to finish, sometimes i just closed my eyes and felt the music, transportative, entrancing, utterly compelling, i will go and see Tangerinecat every possible time i can.”
"Was an incredible night. Come back soon.”
“A genuinely incredible night, and what a performance. Thank you for sharing with us all.”
“Last night we went to see tAngerinecAt perform and it was absolutely amazing! The only way I could describe it was that it was like you was wearing the music as it washed over you”
“Extremely successful evening with my people. The concert of a Ukrainian band that formed in Kyiv and now lives in northern Wales was an incredibly atmospheric experience. Tangerinecat is an experimental duo - Zhenia Purpurovsky and Paul Chilton, who combine industrial, doom metal, rave and post-rock to create their own unique sound.”
"It was ace”
"What a fantastic performance at The Chapel, Nottingham”
"Your Brighton concert was superb”
“Your words like your lyrics have a unique depth of wisdom that only you can bring to this World … a kind of silent poetry that witnesses and speaks volumes of the chaos, tragedy and injustice in this Crazy, Amazing, Scary World in which we choose to inhabit … despite all of this … there is a profound gentleness yet strong empathy of just knowing in the moment everything and nothing … and that is ok too … so thank you for you vibrational, guttural, raw, evocative music and performances … they touch my heart in a way that matters not to the elite and wealthy but in a way far more powerful & poignant than communication of speech could ever express”
“Tangerinecat provides an avenue of escape into the warm hug from family that is no longer with us. I value your art, it explains and encourages healing within.”
“I discovered your music just over a year ago and it has been the discovery of the century for me. My no1 playlist is all 4 albums back to back- every track a gem- cant wait to see you live”
“What a performance! A must see any time you have an opportunity” -
"The whole show was mesmerising”
"What a night! It was such a special event, the audience was amazing, The Old Church venue was breathtaking, the staff was lovely, and Tangerinecat's performance was spellbinding. This event will be etched in my mind forever.” - Riotmiloo
"In the unique atmosphere of Stoke Newington’s Old Church, we enjoyed the powerful music of Tangerinecat, featuring dark folk, ethereal, ceremonial industrial, dark ambient, spoken word, and drone elements. The set ended by invoking the spirit of Gwyn ap Nydd which guided us out of the Church and into the night. We listened to songs and poems about resistance, freedom, and individuality in an atmosphere of shared understanding—standing together against division, with music as a unifying energy.” - Blau Rosen
“Experimental duo tAngerinecAt return with an album brimful of love, loss, anger and transformation.”
“Purpurovsky’s incredible voice… an arresting and unquestionably passionate presence.”
“Dark, ominous and decidedly angry music… yet never one that’s devoid of hope.”
“Feel really lucky to have seen Ukrainian / Welsh experimental duo… an intense and powerful performance.”
