Talking Trash with Dr. Cowger: From Pollution to Prevention🗓 Tuesday, October 7🕔 5:00–7:00 PM📍 Long Beach Sea Base

Join us for an evening of eye-opening science and hands-on action with Dr. Win Cowger, Research Director at the Moore Institute for Plastic Pollution Research.

Dr. Cowger will break down where plastic pollution comes from, how it moves through the environment, and how it impacts people and planet. He’ll also dive into the latest findings from their microplastics lab (one of only two in the world accredited to test for microplastics in drinking water!) and learn how their work is pioneering the future of microplastic monitoring that could help inform future policy.

In the second hour, we’ll head outside to try Algalita’s newly developed Alamitos Bay Water Quality Testing Kits. You’ll get to practice citizen science techniques and learn how to monitor water health using simple tools designed for community use.

Use your reusable containers (cups, bags, containers) at participating locations and join in on BYO Month events to collect stamps and submit your stamp card to be entered to win fun prizes.
