Dave Wilson, comedian and broadcaster, and Mark Jaynes, chief announcer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, take the stage at Indiana Landmarks Center to chat about racing and track culture at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a National Historic Landmark.A Speedway native and lifelong Indy 500 fan, Indianapolis radio personality Dave “The King” Wilson served as a commentator on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network from 2003 to 2020, though fans may know him best for his time on the Bob & Tom Show (1983-1995), WIBC’s afternoon show (1995-2009), and his many years as a stand-up comedian appearing at venues and clubs across the country.
Mark Jaynes, veteran motorsports broadcaster, currently serves as “Voice of the 500” on the worldwide Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network after accepting the storied role in 2016. Jaynes first joined the network in 1996, reporting from both the turns and pit lane before advancing to chief announcer. He is only the sixth “Voice of the 500” in the network’s history, following in the footsteps of Sid Collins, Paul Page, Lou Palmer, Bob Jenkins, and Mike King. In addition to his broadcasting work, Jaynes teaches communications at Monrovia High School and is a longtime high school football coach. He was inducted into the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame in 2024.
