Learn how to motivate your child to engage with music practice & school work. Help your child to develop the resilience they need to thrive
About this Event

Are you wondering how you can encourage your children to practice or revise when there are other things they would clearly rather be doing?

Do you have a daily struggle about homework?

Would you like to find out more about why children display difficult behaviour when they do not want to do something, and what you can do to avoid conflict?

Is your child reluctant to try new things, take on new challenges or do they give up easily when the going gets tough?

Did you know there IS something you can do to help them become self-motivated.

With the rise in mental health issues amongst young people, many parents are concerned about how to help their children become more resilient and able to weather life's storms.

The challenges over recent years have shown us all how necessary the ability to bounce back really is.

Parents are often asking us how they can help their children to develop these soft skills, like resilience, problem-solving, self-motivation, which are learned by experience and are, increasingly, as important as having good exam results and a wealth of extra-curricular experiences and skills.

They also want to know how to motivate their children to be more organised and take responsibility for their own homework, PE kit or untidy bedroom.

We are, therefore, pleased to offer our popular "Talking Resilience & Motivation" workshop that addresses these key issues.

We explore:

  • Different ways of increasing motivation and dealng effectively with flash points at home such as when homework or music practice needs to be done or when a child is reluctant to try something new or face a new challenge.
  • What it takes to enable a young person to be prepared to face challenges and learn from their mistakes.
  • Emphasis is given to helping children to become adults who are able to self-motivate and deal with life's setbacks in a positive manner.

This is an online workshop, via Zoom, that will incorporate a Q&A session and there will be a comfort break halfway through

Parents will leave with a clear understanding of Motivation theory and, more importantly, will have the skills to apply this understanding within their families.

All participants will receive a follow up email with additional information and handouts of all materials.

The Supporting Links ethos is not simply to impart information by Powerpoint, but to encourage parents to question and reflect and enable them to learn valuable skills that will help them to support their children.

Previous attendees have said:

"The session on Motivation has really made me think. The need to be resilient enough to cope with failure BEFORE you have a go at something challenging seems so obvious now! Being able to put this all into practice will make such a difference to how I support my son"

"This workshop has helped me to understand what is going on for my daughter, and for me. Thank you"

This workshop is open to parents and carers of children of all ages studying within the Berkhamsted Schools Group

We offer a limited number of subsidised places for parents/carers in receipt of Universal Credit. Please contact us for details.

Supporting Links is an independent not for profit company.
