Martin Watts talks about Gallipoli and the connection to Medway and Sheppey.The Gallipoli campaign of 1915 was undertaken to bypass the stalemate on the Western Front. It was conceived by Winston Churchill, originally as a naval operation and, when this failed, a hastily planned military operation led to eight months of trench warfare conducted in atrocious conditions with troops blighted by disease. This talk seeks to explain what happened and to highlight some of the individual experiences that have marked the legacy of this ill fated campaign.
