Abbey Arts presents: An evening with T Bone Burnett live in concert
T BONE BURNETT: https://tboneburnett.com/
" When T Bone Burnett was creating his new album "The Other Side," he was inspired by the frequent use of "you" in hit song titles. Reflecting on this, Burnett, an Oscar and Grammy-winning composer-producer, realized that artists appeal to both consciences and dreams when using "you." This insight led him to adopt a more accessible tone in his own music, contrasting with his previously tougher approach.
Burnett's recurring teenage nightmare of dystopia and control inspired much of his work, including the recent "The Invisible Light" series. Observing technology's impact, he sought to escape this dystopia through his music. This shift resulted in "The Other Side," featuring collaborations with artists like Rosanne Cash and Lucius. The album is a haunting 12-song collection, blending eerie, spectral moods with playful, warm tones.
Produced with Colin Linden and Mike Piersante, "The Other Side" presents a country blues sound, a departure from the electronic feel of "The Invisible Light." Burnett discovered a new vocal tone, writing and singing from his chest, leading to a more melodic and accessible album.
Some tracks on the album, such as "Town That Time Forgot" and "Hawaiian Blue Song," had been in development for years. The album opener, "He Came Down," was inspired by Burnett's wife, Callie Khouri, who has profoundly influenced his music and perspective on love.
Ultimately, Burnett aimed to treat himself with the same kindness he extends to others in the studio, shedding his rebellious artist persona. In seeking "you," Burnett found a new, kinder version of himself on "The Other Side." " -Artist Bio
