About this Event
Still Life: Early Baroque Fantasy
Still Life: Early Baroque Fantasy explores the radical, improvisatory world of the seventeenth-century stylus phantasticus. Through works by Castello, Stradella, Fontana, Buxtehude and others, Música d’Outrora traces a world of sudden contrasts, rhetorical freedom and intense expression. The programme draws on the ensemble’s recent debut album and brings together music from Italy, Germany and England in a sequence of vivid musical tableaux.
The harpsichord used in this concert is an original example from the University of Edinburgh's Musical Instrument Collection.
This series of concerts is generously supported by George and Joy Sypert.
