About this Event
First staged at Folkwang Museum, Essen, the exhibit runs as a 28-minute composition, combining birdsong and electronic music.
The work brings the plight of seven endangered bird species into focus, with one from each continent represented. Their voices, gathered from habitats under pressure, are arranged into a collective score that invites attentive listening and reflection on their fragility and potential disappearance.
The threats these birds face are well known: habitat destruction, climate change, illegal trade, urbanisation and fire. As pollinators and seed dispersers, the role they play in maintaining the balance of the environments they inhabit is vital. Their birdsong is a beautiful and functional form of communication embedded in the fabric of living systems. If their voices fall silent, something essential is lost.
Join us as we explore how the project came to life and reflect on how music conveys environmental issues beyond facts and data.
The evening includes a documentary screening, a listening session, and a conversation with Grand River. Plus food and drinks on us.
