Workshop Overview:Step back in time and immerse yourself in the vibrant dancehalls and cabarets of the early 20th century. This 4-hour workshop will focus on African American Jazz dances such as the Charleston, delving into their historical context, and the music genres of Hot Jazz, Swing, and Blues. You will explore the rhythmic, expressive, and improvisatory elements of these dance styles.
What You Will Learn:
Various Jazz dance steps.
Building a choreography suitable for stage performance.
Techniques to make your choreography exciting and creative.
Understanding the historical context and musicality of Jazz dances.
Instructors:
Joris Focquaert: Hailing from Belgium and currently based in Berlin, Joris has 15 years of dance experience, particularly in early Jazz dances like the Lindy Hop and solo Jazz. He teaches and performs across Europe.

Signe Gravlund Thomsen: A full-time artist and performer from Denmark with four years of Lindy Hop experience. Signe is passionate about teaching various theater styles.
Both Joris and Signe are graduates of the Commedia School (2008 and 2007, respectively) and have collaborated extensively over the years. They will use their combined knowledge and experience to guide you through this journey of dance.
