Atlanta’s Nordic Lodge #708 will present its traditional Sankta Lucia celebration on Sunday, the 14th of December, 2025 at 6:00PM in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer located at 731 Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia.Parking lot is available on the lot across 4th street and the parking garage behind the Honeywell Building on 3rd Street (not 4th street). Lucia guests using the garage will need to get a ticket, which can be validated by Redeemer security.
The candlelit, music-filled celebration will consist of traditional and contemporary Swedish Christmas music. The evening will feature the St. Lucia choir with children, women and men from the Swedish community. The performance will be conducted by Mia Peters and Andrew Hershman.
The St. Lucia tradition is celebrated in Sweden and to some extent in other Scandinavian countries. A young Lucia wears a long white gown with a red sash and a crown of lighted candles and is attended by a group of singing attendants in festive holiday costumes. Lucia would offer saffron buns and gingersnaps as well as coffee to everyone she saw in the morning of the official Lucia day; December 13th.
After the celebration a reception featuring coffee and sweets will be offered in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
