On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Silicon Valley Rainbow Rotary is pleased to host Cynthia Chin-Lee (she/her) who will talk about Healthy Living: Community, Food, and Movement. What can we learn from the Blue Zones, the areas in the world where people live healthy, long lives, such as Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; and Nicoya, Costa Rica? We can build healthier, stronger lives through community, food choices, and exercise.
About the speaker
Cynthia Chin-Lee is a retired senior manager from Oracle where she volunteered as the global ally chair for OPEN: Oracle Pride Employee Network (LGBTQ+ and Allies). A month after her retirement, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her doctors told her to do surgery and radiation in the next 30 days, but convinced there might be less invasive ways to solve the problem, she embarked on a journey of change. She immediately became a plant-based eater and then fine tuned her diet precisely to target reducing cancer. She leaned on her communities with her church the First Presbyterian Church Palo Alto where she learned to be an ally, the American Association of University Women, and her local neighborhood in Half Moon Bay. She increased her exercise, including yoga, jogging, and weight training. Eight months after her diagnosis, her PET scan showed no evidence of cancer. Cynthia is a published author of 8 books, specializing in children’s multicultural books. For more information, see cynthiachinlee.com.
