It is exciting to announce that the Sustainable Sweden Association will once again be offering their in-person culturally immersive study and travel tours. This upcoming two-week experience will begin Saturday, May 11, 2024 and open with visits to eco-municipalities in Southern Sweden for the first week, followed by a ferry ride to Åland Islands off the coast from Stockholm for a weekend stay, and end with a journey to the north. Part of the final moments will include a meet-and-greet with key leaders from the oldest existing eco-municipality in the world -- Övertorneå -- at the Arctic Circle.
During the tour, you will have an opportunity to both explore and learn about sustainable and regenerative development projects across Sweden's eco-municipalities and engage in knowledge-sharing with leaders from Sweden as well as fellow participants from around the world. You'll experience in-depth seminars regarding theory and frameworks behind the eco-municipality work as well as have ample opportunity for conversation and networking.
We will be surrounded by Sweden's beauty and culture while learning together and exchanging ideas. The activities will be designed to encourage participants to gain inspiration for their own sustainable development journeys and make contacts for potential ongoing collaboration and connection. Anyone interested in exploring the eco-municipality model first-hand and learning about Sweden's experience over the past four decades is invited and welcome!
Wondering what an eco-municipality is? Swedish thought leaders developed the eco-municipality model and it serves to provide a holistic context for city and community revitalization and resiliency initiatives. The approach offers a structure and framework for addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), regenerative development, climate goals, and more. During the tour, participants will witness how the eco-municipality model has been supporting new and longstanding efforts of this kind throughout Sweden.

The overall price of the tour itself is $5200 USD, which includes all meals, accommodations, lectures, study visits, and travel during the full 14 days of the tour (May 12 - 25) as well as a reception with light refreshments and overnight accommodations upon arrival May 11. The price does not include international or other travel to the starting point of the tour and other miscellaneous costs like gifts, gratuities, and extra food and drink. An initial tour deposit of $1560 USD will be collected in the coming months and we will ask for payment of the remaining balance by the end of March 2024. An early bird discount of $200 off the remaining balance will be granted to those paying in full by Feb 14, 2024.
