About this Event
Heriot-Watt University Dubai will be delivering a Sustainability Symposium on the 26th January 2023 titled: “The Expo 2020 Sustainability Legacy, towards COP 28 and beyond” to share experiences and draw lessons learnt on how the Expo 2020 Dubai promoted and escalated the contribution towards sustainable development, while engaging stakeholders from all sectors and nationalities.
This symposium will invite key players from academia/private sector/government/NGOs/International Organizations. Given the learnings from Expo 2020 Dubai, this symposium aims at yielding the best results which prompted the adoption of sustainability practices and solutions here in the UAE. At the same time, it intends to gather and connect minds to design a road map of sustainability, inspiring society, industry, and the Government. The driving question of the symposium is: How did Expo 2020 Dubai influence the sustainability journey of local and international organisations/entrepreneurs in the UAE?”
Panel 1 – EXPO 2022 Vision and Strategy
Expo 2020 Dubai has been planned and designed in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan while adopting the principles of sustainability, mobility and opportunity. This session shares the rationale of the organisers and implementers in designing, building and operating the Expo 2020 Dubai site and in promoting and contributing to sustainability.
Panel 2 - Learning from Expo 2020 Dubai Sustainability Pioneers
Most of Country Pavilions at the Sustainability District of the Expo 2020 Dubai aligned with the Expo’s purpose by showing the relevance and effectiveness of their unique sustainability strategies. Learning from awarded Pavilions on their experiences and results and on the support provided to implement their strategies at entrepreneurial level, will demonstrate the practical impacts the Expo 2020 Dubai generated.
Panel 3 – Legacy beyond Expo 2020 and towards COP28
Expo 2020 Dubai has been designed to live a legacy. Building an Expo City, a clean, green, innovation-driven, human-centric city of the future, designed as a blueprint for sustainable urban planning, galvanising action on its journey to net-zero. The upcoming COP28 climate conference will be held at Expo City Dubai which is a great opportunity to share, debate and explore viable climate change solutions.
