About this Event
Join us for Suspended Harmony - a journey of beauty and music beyond the bounds of the ordinary. This provocative performance by shibari and sound artists will delight your senses and introduce you to fascinating new experiences.
A live musician will improvise to complement the dance between rope artists and their muses. As the music charges the air the performers move to the rhythms, inspiring a sensual interplay that is a delicious indulgence for both performers and for the audience. Two different rope performances will unfold simultaneously, weaving themselves into the landscape of sound. This harmony of shibari artistry and music will take you on a journey of sincere human connectivity, sensuality and real-time creativity.
After the performances, the space will open to Toronto’s shibari community for a rope jam, with the usual Birdhaus array of suspension points available. Energetic beats and great drinks will continue to flow throughout the night and everyone is welcome to stay.
Shibari is a Japanese art form with a complex history stretching back hundreds of years. In a beautiful display of trust and vulnerability a rope artist works with a model, often suspending them in mid-air, blending rope techniques and the human body’s natural landscape to create stunning patterns that challenge us to see human form in bold new ways. Both rope artists and their models spend years learning and growing in the realm of shibari and their trust in working together unfolds gracefully as they transition through a range of stunning poses.
Come and join us for beauty beyond the ordinary.
