About this Event
SPS Youth Services Unit, in collaboration with the Operational Skills Section, will be hosting a Student Police Academy in July. The Academy will provide students with a basic understanding of the policing environment and insight into a career in policing.
The students will be exposed to various team exercises, fitness sessions, legal studies, communication, de-escalation, problem solving and scenario-based training. Each student must be physically fit, as the academy will include the POPAT (Police Officers Physical Assessment Test) and daily physical fitness.
The academy will run from 0800-1600 July 20-24th, at the SPS Training Center. The student must be able to commit to all days. Registration fee per student is $150 which includes SPS athletic gear and other related items.
Eligibility requirements for each student are as follows:
- Student is in grade 11 or 12
- Desire to learn about a career in policing
- Physically fit
- Complete a Criminal Record Check
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
The Academy will be open to 22 students. The selection process for the potential participants is as follows:
1. Complete and submit attached forms
2. Selection interviews
3. Final selection
4. Parent information session
