About this Event
Brokers Gallery is proud to present the surrealist painter Ler Chang and their collection "The Life." IG Changle95845, www.lerchangfineart.com
Immigrated from China, Adapting to life in America has been an important learning experience for me. I pay close attention to people, society, and the environment. I observe how people live with nature and other species in both urban and rural areas. I see how people from different cultural backgrounds live and work together, and I also see many issues people face that are not very different from those in other countries. I want to convey these observations and thoughts through my art skills.
The Life consists of oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures. All works are representational and realistic, but presented with a more dramatic and direct visual language. These works are based on my observation, understanding, and interpretation of the surrounding world, often shown from a different point of view.
With a cohesive artistic style, the exhibition conceptually contains two main parts, without a strict boundary between them. One part explores the meaning of life and death, and the attitude we take toward them. This includes works such as Skeleton Party, New Year’s Day, Smile Forever, and Yellow Spring. The other part focuses on the relationships between humans and other species, and on seeing life from different perspectives. This includes works such as The Life Below, The Life Above, The Life Lowly, CUT, and Cross. Several other works reflect on the lives of pet animals, including Mis-love, The Outside World, and The Life Within. Through these works, I raise questions about how humans treat other species, and how power, care, and misunderstanding exist within these relationships.
The works depict scenes and relationships that are universally recognizable. The stories could take place anywhere. By presenting everyday moments through unexpected perspectives, the exhibition encourages viewers to rethink how they relate to one another and to the environment they share. I believe art can influence how people think. This exhibition is my way of contributing to the community—by encouraging awareness, respect, and understanding between people, animals, and the world we share.
We hope you join us at the gallery and bring a friend to take in the rich visual story through Ler's original paintings and perspective.
