Have you taken a number of trans-related trainings, and are looking for a learning environment beyond the 101?
About this Event

Do you have any trans clients who are interested in socially transitioning, legally changing their name and gender marker, or medically transitioning?

Please join us for this upcoming in-person training: Supporting Trans and Non-Binary Clients with Transitioning in Ontario.

The main objective of this training is for participants to gain practical front-line skills and knowledge related to supporting trans and non-binary clients with the difficult bureaucratic aspects of transitioning.

We will spend some time on supporting trans and non-binary clients with social transition. Topics include:

  • Trans-affirming counselling
  • Tools for social transition support
  • Fear of making mistakes

The bulk of the training will focus on system navigation.

Topics include:

  • Receiving and filling out all forms needed to support trans clients with legal name and gender marker change in Ontario
  • Basic understanding of medical transition options
  • System navigation strategies for supporting clients with medical transition in Ontario, such as finding providers who will prescribe hormones or give surgical referrals
  • OHIP process from wanting surgeries to getting surgeries

Infused with knowledge development, small group discussions and individual reflection opportunities, this training intensive is meant for those who want to increase their capacity to support trans and non-binary clients in concrete and tangible ways.

Note: This is not a trans 101 training. It is assumed that participants will have basic trans + non-binary knowledge such as knowing what “cisgender” means, and having some experience being able to successfully use they/them pronouns.

Coffee, tea, breakfast snacks and full lunch are included. This is a masked event.
