Supporting Survivors: Advanced Advocacy for Child Victims of Human Trafficking

Each session requires separate registration, please register for tickets for each session. Attendance at both sessions is encouraged. If you plan to attend both days, please select two tickets: one for session 1 and one for session 2.


Session 1: Understanding Human Trafficking and Trauma-Informed Engagement: Tools for Attorneys and Advocates

Tuesday, October 21 from 1:00 - 4:30 pm

3.5 CLE (substantive) and CEU credits

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognizing and identifying signs of human trafficking
  • Overview of trauma and its impact on brain development and behavior
  • Discussion of the victim-offender intersectionality
  • Reframing and contextualizing survivor behaviors
  • Trauma-informed practices and engagement strategies to build trust and support healing

Session 2: Systems, Services, and Advocacy for Survivors

Wednesday, October 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm

3.0 CLE (substantive) and CEU credits)

Learning Objectives:

  • Immersive group activity exploring systemic barriers and emphasizing survivor experiences
  • Overview of key services, including legal, mental health, housing, and peer-based services
  • Recognizing gaps and needed system improvements

Speakers:

  • Heather LaRocca, LCSW, Director, New Day to Stop Trafficking Program, The Salvation Army
  • Lori Carpenter, LCSW, CVHT Assessment Specialist, Philadelphia Children's Alliance
  • Marcia Hopkins, MSW, Program Manager, Project PROTECT, Support Center for Child Advocates
  • Liz Stein, Survivor Mentor/Child Policy Associate, Project PROTECT, Support Center for Child Advocates
  • Nilsa Ulerio, MHP, Bilingual CVHT Program Coordinator, Philadelphia Children's Alliance
  • Gracie George, BSW, Prevention Education Specialist, New Day to Stop Trafficking Program, The Salvation Army

Cost: General Registration and registration for CEU credit and Child Advocates Volunteer Attorneys is free. There is a $10 fee per CLE credit.

Attendance: This is an in-person summit at Philadelphia Family Court (1501 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19102). Attendance at both sessions is strongly encouraged.

**Support Center for Child Advocates, Center for Excellence in Advocacy is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors to offer continuing education for social workers, marriage and family therapists and professional counselors.
