About this Event

Join artist Danielle Cowan for Supporting Soundscapes of Hope, a free community workshop.

WHEN:

Wednesday, June 3rd

5-7pm

FREE

Lock in and listen up! Where do you hear hope in the community you help or call home?

Record some audio with whatever you have easy access to (phones are great). After we play each sound, we will do a silent processing activity for all ages and abilities for about two minutes. The more sounds we get, the more we can stay submerged in hope. So have your coworker, cousin, crush, kid or the whole crew record too.

Afterward, you will be invited to share a community meal and contribute reflections to an evolving public art project that will be on display in our Staten Island Makerpark for Art in Makerpark 2026.

**This workshop was inspired by a listening protocol, created by the sound anarchist collective Ultra Red.**

BEFORE THE WORKSHOP:
*Please make sure we can access your sound by uploading here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xXmBK-72stcMYg2QiPxRuU6q49GoMTen before or at the workshop, to avoid any technical difficulties.

ARTIST BIO:

Makerpark 2026 artist-in-residence Danielle Cowan (she/they) is a blind, queer and Blackarican native New Yorker dabbling in organizing, performance and poetry. Her art comes from fascination with what it means for a body or place to hold multiple sometimes conflicting identities and playing with ways to write within shared histories and trauma. Her work has been published in Causeway Lit’s Revolution Issue, Mobius: the Journal of Social Change and elsewhere. She was an artistic investigator for Rattlestick Playwrights Theater’s Block by Block Project and was a spring 2022 Office Hours Poetry Workshop fellow.
